Greece
Why Greece SHOULD be your next trip.
Truly a place with something for everyone, Greece`s remarkable trifecta of
Culture & History,
Relaxing & Chilling Out, and
Nature & Outdoors puts it near the top of almost everyone`s list of favorite destinations. Walking among the ghosts of Plato and Socrates through the countless archaeological sites and museums of
Athens and
Crete brings the justifiably famous Greek history and mythology to life. Once you have seen one too many marble statues, head for the sublime island of
Santorini to witness truly mesmerizing sunsets from the tops of dramatic volcanic cliffs and let time slow to a crawl. And finally when you are ready to do something other than gaze across the Mediterranean, head north to the stunning
Meteora and its monasteries atop sheer rock pinnacles or take a trek to the top of
Mt. Olympus. If all of this weren`t enough, make sure to indulge in the wonderful Greek
Food (think gyros, souvlaki, or spanakopita) and feel free to take the youngsters on one of Greece`s many
Kid Friendly island-hopping cruises.
Why Greece should NOT be your next trip.
Perhaps the only real reason not to come to Greece is that you could easily find yourself sharing all of its beauty with hordes of other tourists. But getting
Off the Beaten Path isn`t overly difficult if you avoid the high season of summer, and with over 100 inhabited islands there is always a place to find solitude. However, because many of Greece`s destinations are surprisingly spread out it sometimes isn`t
Easy to Get Around. The government bureaucracy and struggling economy contribute to the occasionally late/cancelled train or boat ride, and sometimes there might not be another one for days. Also keep in mind that Athens can be quite congested and polluted at times, and when you get into the more rural parts of the country you may find that with English only spoken on a limited basis it is indeed all Greek to you.
